Ed had to dig up his mom because when a humonkulous(SP?!) is close to the remains of the person that was meant to be brought back in the human transmutation they were created in, they get weak. And so to kill Sloth, the resault of Ed and Al’s sin, they need their mother’s remains.

it was such a relief to find out that Ed doesnt actually die in the series but he does in the anime. shame how they finished the anime but in the manga they are way past this part and ed and al both are alive. i even think al got his body back they are only fighing truth (a god that resides in the gate) and the hermunculus of thier dad (and other hermunculi)
